Burbank City Council Adopts Resolution to Strengthen Commitment to a Welcoming and Safe Community for All

Burbank, CA (February 12, 2025) - At the February 11, 2025, City Council meeting, the Burbank City Council adopted a resolution strengthening and expanding the City’s commitment for a welcoming, safe, and inclusive community for all, regardless of immigration status.

The resolution aligns with Senate Bill 54 (SB 54) and Burbank Police Department Policy 428, expanding these provisions Citywide to all City personnel and City services as follows:

  • Restricts the use of City personnel and resources from involvement in federal immigration enforcement.

  • Directs that no City employee shall collect or disclose immigration related information, except as required by the law.

  • The resolution reaffirms that enforcement of federal immigration law is solely the responsibility of the federal government and that no City department, including the Burbank Police Department, has a duty to enforce immigration laws.

These measures ensure that all community members can access City services and programs, report crimes, and participate in community life without concern of immigration-related repercussions from local officials, safeguarding the rights and dignity of all residents.

As part of the City’s continued commitment to empowering and educating the community, the City has launched a “Know Your Rights” website, which provides regular updates and important details on existing laws and community resources.  For more information, visit:  burbankca.gov/know_your_rights.
