Burbank City Council declares March 2023 as Women's History Month

On Tuesday, February 28, 2023, the Burbank City Council proclaimed March 2023 as Women's History Month in Burbank. Ms. Linda Murphy was present to accept the proclamation as a lifelong Burbank resident and advocate for sports equality in Burbank and abroad. In 1957, Linda became one of the original members of the first girls softball team in Burbank History, "The Braids". She went on to earn a spot on the first US Olympic Women's Volleyball team in 1964 and was named an All-Time Great Player in 1971. Linda and her team won several recognitions through the years including 8 USA Open National Championship Titles and 5-time First Team All American. 

Ms. Murphy spent her career as a physical education teacher for BUSD and coached at John Burroughs High School, Los Angeles Valley College, California State University Northridge, and USA Volleyball. Linda's lifelong advocacy for sports equality will forever benefit the girls and women in the Burbank community and beyond. Happy Women's History Month, Burbank!
