Burbank City Council Extends Commercial Eviction and Parking Lot Dining Orders in Response to COVID-19
Burbank, CA (July 1, 2021) – The Burbank City Council approved extending two urgency orders in response to the COVID-19 Pandemic. These include, extending the Urgency Commercial Eviction Ordinance and extending the Urgency Ordinance to allow restaurants to continue to use their private parking lots for outdoor dining.
Extending the Local Commercial Eviction Moratorium until September 30, 2021
The Local Commercial Eviction Ordinance for commercial tenants does not forgive the payment of rent, but rather acknowledges a commercial tenant is still obligated to pay any missed rent as deferred payments. Any deferred rent will be due six months after the end of the expiration of the Ordinance. The approved Ordinance expires September 30, 2021, unless extended again. This means all deferred rent would be due on March 30, 2022. Additionally, the Property Owner may not charge or collect interest, late fees or other penalties that could accrue on unpaid rent through the end of the six-month grace period. Residential evictions continue to fall under State legislation AB 832.
The City Council continues to encourage commercial tenants to pay any portion of the rent they can afford along with speaking with landlords to arrange a repayment plan.

Extending the Urgency Ordinance Temporarily Allowing Outdoor Dining in Private Parking Lots until December 31, 2021
This ordinance will allow restaurants to continue to provide outdoor dining in private parking lots until December 31, 2021, unless extended again which coincides with expiration of the expanded outdoor dining program in the public right-of-way, allowing restaurants the ability to continue to provide outdoor dining services now and when the State and County Orders are lifted
