Burbank Library Services Director Announces Departure

Burbank, CA (June 6, 2024) – Elizabeth Goldman, Burbank's Library Services Director, has announced her resignation, effective Friday, July 5, 2024. Ms. Goldman is set to embark on a new professional journey outside the public sector.

Since stepping into the role in 2016, Ms. Goldman has been instrumental in modernizing the city's library system, which includes three branches. Her leadership has brought about significant improvements, notably in the enhancement of online services.  She led extensive planning efforts for the proposed new Burbank Central Library and Civic Center, including obtaining $10 million in grant funding for the project from the State of California.

Under her tenure, the library introduced several pivotal programs: the Job Connect Plus program, the Spark! Digital Media Lab, the expansion of the Sister City program, and an increase in social services to support those in need.

"I want to extend my sincere appreciation to Ms. Goldman for her dedication and innovative ideas she infused into our library system," said City Manager Justin Hess. "I wish her all the best in her new venture and look forward to appointing a Director who will continue to build upon the library’s many successes."

Reflecting on her time in Burbank, Goldman stated, "Serving the Burbank community has been a privilege. The library's achievements are a testament to the hard work and passion of our staff. I am confident that they will continue to steer the library towards an even brighter future."

Ms. Goldman has worked in the library field for 15 years in California, Michigan, and Canada. She has served on the boards of numerous organizations, including the California Library Association and the Burbank YMCA. Ms. Goldman is a graduate of Stanford University and the University of Michigan.

The Library Services Director, selected by the City Manager, plays a crucial role in leading Burbank’s libraries and serving on the City’s Executive Team.
