I-5 in Burbank from 11 p.m. Wednesday to 5 a.m. Thursday (July 14-15) for Bridge Construction
BURBANK, CA (July 9, 2021) — The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) plans to close all lanes on Interstate 5 in Burbank between 11 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, and 5 a.m. Thursday, July 15, for bridge construction at Burbank Boulevard. Motorists are advised to use other freeway routes to avoid delays.
Starting at 11 p.m., Southbound I-5 will be closed from Buena Vista Street to Burbank Boulevard. About an hour later at 11:59 p.m. Northbound I-5 will be closed from Alameda Avenue to Burbank Boulevard. Detours will be posted.
The closure will continue in both directions until 5 a.m., when all lanes will reopen. The schedule is subject to change due to weather or operational reasons.
Motorists are advised to avoid delays by using other freeway routes such as State Route 134 (Ventura Freeway) and State Route 170 (Hollywood Freeway), or I-405 (San Diego Freeway).
All traffic on Northbound I-5 will exit the freeway at Alameda Avenue. All southbound traffic will exit at Buena Vista Street. One or two lanes on I-5 may close as early as 9 p.m.
The connector from Westbound Route 134 to Northbound I-5 will be closed, and several I-5 on-ramps or off-ramps between Western Avenue and Hollywood Way will be closed starting at 9 p.m. and reopening by 6 a.m. at most locations. Detours will be posted.
Times and locations of closures are subject to change. Updates will be posted on the project’s website My5LA.com and on Twitter at @My5LA.
Crews are constructing the I-5 Burbank Boulevard Bridge, part of the I-5 HOV (High Occupancy Vehicle, or carpool lanes) project by Caltrans, Metro (Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority) and the city of Burbank. The bridge is scheduled to open this year. The I-5 carpool lanes are scheduled to open in spring 2022.
