Mayor Nick Schultz Steps Down to Join the State Assembly

Burbank, CA (November 21, 2024) – Effective November 25 at 12:00 p.m., Mayor Nick Schultz will step down from his position as Mayor of Burbank following his election to serve as the representative for California’s 44th Assembly District. A new Mayor will be selected at the City Council reorganization on December 16, which will also include the welcoming of a new Council Member.

Mayor Schultz was first elected to the Burbank City Council in November 2020. During his time on the Council, he demonstrated a deep commitment to public service and community advocacy, drawing on his experiences as the first member of his working-class family to attend and graduate from college.

He studied at the Robert D. Clark Honors College at the University of Oregon, earning degrees in History and Political Science. He later completed his Juris Doctor at the University of Oregon School of Law. His professional journey has been rooted in public service, with Mayor Schultz most recently serving as a Deputy Attorney General in the Special Prosecutions Section of the Attorney General’s Office at the California Department of Justice. In this capacity, he has worked with local, state, and federal law enforcement to investigate and prosecute cases of public corruption, human trafficking, financial fraud, and more.

Reflecting on his transition, Mayor Schultz shared, “Serving Burbank on the City Council has been one of the most meaningful opportunities of my life—a responsibility I have truly cherished. While I’m excited to serve our community at the state level, I remain committed to championing the issues that matter most to Burbank. Thank you all for the opportunity to serve this incredible community we call home. While my job title may change, my heart will always remain in Burbank.”
