Officer Involved Shooting

Burbank, California – An investigation is underway at the Quality Inn following an early morning officer involved shooting that has left one person dead.

On March 8, 2021, at about 4:46 a.m., Burbank Police received a report of a check the wellbeing on an unsupervised young child, who appeared to be wandering in the Quality Inn parking lot.  Officers arrived on-scene and contacted the child.  During their investigation, officers came into contact with a male, who was seated inside of a vehicle, in the Quality Inn parking lot.  At some point during this interaction, an officer involved shooting occurred.

Officers immediately summoned medical aid.  The Burbank Fire Department responded and transported the subject to a local trauma center where he succumbed to his injuries.  Neither the child, nor the officers were injured as a result of the shooting.  The child is currently in protective custody.

A loaded firearm was recovered at the scene.

The identity of the deceased is not being released at this time pending identification by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office, and notification to a next of kin.

Burbank Police Detectives are currently on-scene conducting an investigation and the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office has been notified of the incident.
