E-Bikes and Shared Use Mobility
E-bikes
E-bikes come in three classifications:
- Class 1: Pedal assisted bicycle equipped with a motor with a top assisted speed of 20 miles per hour
- Class 2: Throttle assisted bicycle equipped with a motor with a top assisted speed of 20 miles per hour
- Class 3: Pedal assisted bicycle equipped with a motor, a speedometer, with a top assisted speed of 28 miles per hour
The California Vehicle Code treats Class 1 and Class 2 e-bikes as pedal bicycles.
Class 3 bicycles require riders to be at least 16, though a drivers license is not required. Class 3 e-bikes are also banned on bike paths such as the Chandler Bikeway and the Burbank Channel Bikeway. All riders of Class 3 e-bikes must wear helmets.
Shared Use Mobility
Shared use mobility scooters and bicycles are banned in Burbank. If you see a shared use bicycle or scooter and would like it removed please use the following forms:
